China Athletic Indoor Indoor Championship Canceled 19:19 on January 27 due to spread of new type pneumonia

Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, top Japanese players are scheduled to participate, and the land-based Asian indoor championship scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China next month has been canceled.

The Asian Indoor Championship is a bi-annual tournament since 2004, and this event will be held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China on the 12th and 13th of next month.

According to the Japan Athletics Federation, following the spread of the new coronavirus in China, the Asian Athletics Federation has contacted us to stop the event.

The Asian Indoor Championship is one of the tournaments whose results are reflected in the important world rankings for participation in the Tokyo Olympics. Naoto Tobe has a Japanese record in the men's high jump and Shotaro Shiroyama and men have a Japanese record in the men's long jump. Top players including short-range Shuhei Tada and Ryo Shiraishi were scheduled to participate.

"It's a shame because it is an important event for the Olympics, but we believe that the health and safety of athletes and officials in each country are the top priority," said Hiroshi Yokokawa, chairman of the Japan Athletic Federation.
