• Draw: Tomás rescues Espanyol
  • Incidents: Fights in Cornellà and Valencia

On a day to forget in Spanish football, with serious incidents between ultras in Cornellá and Valencia, there was still one more reason to embarrass as a society. Iñaki Williams, Athletic striker, has publicly denounced the racist insults he has received in the Espanyol field by local fans. The meeting was not suspended nor was there any threat of it, contrary to what happened a few weeks ago with Rayo-Albacete after the insults of "Nazi fucking" towards Roman Zozulia.

"I'm going a little sad for the draw and especially because I have suffered racist insults, which is something that no black player or of any race wants to hear . It's something that is totally out of place, people have to come to the stadium to enjoy, to cheer on his team. Soccer is a sport of friendship and team and this type of event cannot occur, "the player denounced in statements to the official Athletic media.

The chants would have occurred at the time it was replaced, in the 69th minute of the match . Williams left the field by the baseline, as it was closest to his position. The television images show that at one point the Athletic striker reacts to a comment he hears and faces someone in the stands until one of the Athletic's utilmers goes in his search.

Williams transmitted to Iker Muniain , as captain of Athletic, the racist insults he had received, who in turn transmitted them to the referee of the match, Sánchez Martínez. The game, however, continued to play normally.

It is not the first time that Williams has to endure racist insults from a rival hobby. In 2016, a Sporting-Athletic stood for a minute for "sounds imitating the onomatopoeia of the monkey aimed at the player Iñaki Williams", as reflected in the minutes Clos Gómez, referee of that game. The Sporting was punished with the partial closure of a stand of El Molinón.
