At the end of 2017, the Italian tore off its front cross band but the 28-year-old did not give up his career but fought on. Today, Curtoni took advantage of the visibility getting better after the sun peeked up to her ride.

"It took me two years to come back," says Curtoni according to the AP.

There have been difficult moments on the long road back.

The parents were there

- I attribute this victory to everyone who has been close to me. I have never lost my smile even when life has been dark. It was probably fatal that it would end like this. Even my parents had decided to come here, says Curtoni, who won the close race ahead of Marta Bassino and Federica Brignone.

Shiffrin satisfied despite pallet loss

Before today's meeting, Curtoni had been on the podium three times.

Yesterday's winner Mikaela Shiffrin missed the podium and finished four.

- It went a little faster than yesterday and I didn't take any crazy risks. Skiing felt good and I'm proud of how I've been riding here the past few days, says Shiffrin.
