It was the home player and 47th-ranked John Millman who got the best start and won the first set. Then the World Tree found Roger Federer in the match and won two sets on the rake - but he had to fight.

Millman managed to come back and won the fourth set. Then a shiver waited in the fifth and decisive set.

- I had problems with his serve, but just tried to hold my own. John did a fantastic match and deserves all the support, says Federer at Eurosport.

Strong pickup in tiebreak

In the fifth set, the players got their own breakthrough and the match went to supertiebreak. A tiebreak where they go to ten points and should win by two points. And for a long time it looked like it would be the home player Millman who would stand to get a bang and beat Federer.

After twelve points scored, it was 8-4 for the home player. Then he began to quiver and Federer picked up his experience. The World Stream picked up the bottom with six points on the rake and eventually won by 10-8.

- Thank goodness it was supertiebreak otherwise I would have lost this match. Millman did everything right at the beginning of the tiebreak and I began to think about what I would say at the press conference afterwards, Federer says.

The match lasted for four hours and the final numbers were 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-10).

Case for the world stars

Federer was close to becoming the fourth world star to leave the tournament in the third round. On Friday, both Caroline Wozniacki, Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka departed.

In the next match, Hungarian Marton Fucsovics is waiting for Federer in the fourth round.
