Gauff won by 6-3, 6-4 after, among other things, reversing the bottom set in the first set.
"I just thought that I would keep trying," she says in the victory interview on the track.
In the fourth round she is set against the winner in the match between Zhang Shuai, China and Sofia Kenin, USA.
- It doesn't matter who I meet. I should not see their match, I am probably sleeping then, says the 15-year-old who will spend the day of rest before the eighth part of plugging.
Gauff is about to climb high on the rankings. However, it will take time before she can become a tennis queen. According to the rules of tennis, she may not play more than ten tournaments a year until she turns 16, and the following year only twelve. The rule is that young talents should not be burned out too soon.
Gauff is probably still on his way to take over the American tennis throne from former world champion Serena Williams. One sign of that is that the seven-time Australian Open winner was knocked out in the third round.
