Heavy rain showers and sandstorms during the morning delayed the game in the Australian Open. High pressure hoses were used to flush water from the tracks, but new persistent rain created new problems. The roof began to close, but not fast enough for Daniil Medvedev who slipped around during his match.

- We only played one game on, let's call it the out-bus track. As soon as the roof is closed, everything changes, he says.

In the actual match, however, the Russian stood pallid, beating Spanish qualifier Pedro Martinez by 7-5, 6-1, 6-3.
