Japan's Kyodo News reported Wednesday that the Asian and Oceanian qualifiers for the 2020 Olympics, which were to be held in the Chinese city of Wuhan, were canceled due to concerns about a new mysterious virus outbreak of the Corona strain.

The boxing preparations for the Olympic Games were already affected after the International Olympic Committee decided last June to supervise the competition, and suspended the International Boxing Association due to issues related to its financial affairs and governance.

The International Olympic Committee has formed a working group led by Morenari Watanabe, president of the International Gymnastics Federation, to organize boxing competitions.

Chinese officials said that the number of deaths due to the virus in China rose to nine today, Wednesday, in addition to 440 confirmed cases, while the authorities increased their efforts to control the spread of the virus by warning from public gatherings in Hubei province.
