This week, FC Nantes pays tribute to the death of Emiliano Sala, who died on Tuesday exactly one year ago in a plane crash. The players will wear special shirts, among others, in the league match against Girondins de Bordeaux on Sunday.

Sala flew from Nantes in France to his new club Cardiff City in January 2019, but the private plane disappeared above the Channel. A month later, the body of the 28-year-old Argentinian striker was found in the wreck of the aircraft.

To commemorate Sala, Nantes exchanges the yellow-blue uniform for a blue-white shirt, the colors of the Argentinian team. The proceeds from shirt sales are donated to the two Argentinian clubs for which Sala played during his youth.

That is not the only way in which Nantes pays attention to the death of the striker: applause is applauded for a minute before the game and there is a sail in the center circle with a photo of Sala on it.

Incidentally, Nantes and Cardiff are still struggling about the transfer fee of a total of 17.5 million euros. FIFA decided that Cardiff should transfer the first installment - EUR 6 million - to Nantes, but the Wales club disagreed and went to the international sports tribunal CAS in October.
