Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah made sure Liverpool now lead Premier League football by a staggering 16-point margin to second Manchester City, which also has a game more played.

The rest of the way to the first league title since 1990 seems to be a pure defilement.

Liverpool had won 20 of 21 league matches this season before Sunday's hit and it was precisely Nilsson-Lindelöfs United who managed to calm the superior series leader on points at Old Trafford in October when it was 1-1.

Now United came into play without Marcus Rashford who sustained a back injury in the FA Cup earlier this week and will now be gone for several weeks.

Quick grip

Liverpool quickly grabbed Anfield when Virgil van Dijk had to head the corner on the corner already in the 14th minute after poor marking. Harry Maguire tried to clean up the situation at the last moment, but could not reach.

Just over ten minutes later, the home team had a 2-0 ball inside - which however was sentenced.

After the VAR review, van Dijk was deemed to have called in a height duel with goalkeeper David de Gea and Roberto Firmino's goal was not approved.

Liverpool created location after location, but burnt everything. De Gea also made a high-class foot pair at the end of the first half when Sadio Mané was released.

Salah decided

Manchester United had a great opportunity in the 59th minute when Anthony Martial ran through, but the Frenchman opted to go into power in the end that went high over.

United could lift the game at the end, but the really sharp chances never came.

Instead, Mohamed Salah was able to counter 2-0 goals in the final extra minute.

Manchester United remain in fifth place and missed the chance to shrink the five-point margin up to quad Chelsea holding the last Champions League spot.

Trean Leicester surprisingly fell away against Burnley who turned and won by 2-1. The decision came with eleven minutes remaining through Ashley Westwood.
