Joost Luiten has risen more than twenty places in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Friday due to a good second round. The 34-year-old golfer is in shared twelfth place halfway through the heavily occupied tournament.
On his second match day of 2020, Luiten needed 68 hits (4 under par) for the eighteen holes of the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. He produced six birdies and two bogeys.
The Dutchman, who was 33rd by a round of 70 strokes (-2) on Thursday, is now 33 strokes behind Francesco Laporta. The 29-year-old Italian took the lead with a clear round of 63 (-9) and is now at -10.
The Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello and the Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick are second on one stroke of Laporta. The number one in the world Brooks Koepka dropped far away in the rankings. The American went partly through two double bogeys in 75 strokes (+3) and is 35th.
The tournament in the United Arab Emirates lasts until Sunday and is considered one of the biggest events on the European Tour. The total prize money is 7 million dollars (converted around 6.3 million euros).
