Spartak voted against expanding the RPL to 18 teams, since we believe that the league is not ready for this yet. First of all, this concerns a number of existing and potential tournament participants in terms of infrastructure compliance with RPL regulations, ”the press service of Spartak quotes Zorn.

He also noted that not much time has passed since the bankruptcy of Tosno and Amkara. According to him, the economic prerequisites for expansion are also not obvious, since in some regions the low attendance of matches and many clubs do not learn a lot of income from the implementation of television and commercial rights.

“It seems to us that the RPL has not yet fully realized its potential in the existing format of 16 clubs in order to move towards expansion,” Zorn added.

Currently, 16 teams are competing in the RPL, 30 rounds are being held in the championship. The general meeting of RPL clubs voted to increase the number of participants to 18 teams.

Earlier, coach Haji Hajiyev called the problems that may arise with the expansion of the RPL.
