Xavi Hernandez, former Barcelona captain and current Al Sadd coach of Qatar, revealed that he refused to coach the club's first football team because it came too early in his coaching career.

Barca sacked coach Ernesto Valverde last Monday, replacing him with Kiki Sittin, but he first offered the position to Chavez, the coach of his former captain.

"I received an offer from Barcelona, when Eric Abidal (Sports Director) and Oscar Gro (Executive Director) were here but I rejected it, and the main reason is because it is too early to train Barcelona," said Xavi.

"But do not let anyone doubt that my dream in the future is to train Barcelona."

Xavi has a contract with Al Sadd until 2020, while Cettin signed a contract with Barcelona until 2022, although the club has the option to disengage the former Real Betis coach in 2021 after the scheduled elections.

"I love Sittin and the way he works, and I hope he will achieve success with Barcelona," Chafee added.
