Denmark is the reigning Olympic and World Cup champion. But in the European Championship premiere, the team lost to Iceland by 30-31 (15-15).

As late as last year, Denmark won the World Cup gold in handball when the team defeated Norway in the final at home by 31-22. Denmark also won Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro 2016. Prior to the European Championships in Sweden, Norway and Austria, the team is the favorite of many to take home the gold.

Tonight the team entered the tournament to meet Iceland in Malmö. It became a tough story for Denmark. At halftime it was 15-15. The team was followed until 14 minutes into the second half when Alexander Peterson made 24-23 to Iceland. The team also won by 31-30 at the end after big shudders.
