PSV and Ajax played their first exhibition match in Qatar on Thursday with varying degrees of success. The team from Eindhoven lost 1-2 to Club Brugge and the team from Amsterdam won 2-0 to KAS Eupen.
PSV trailed 0-2 in the second half due to goals from Jelle Vossen (blow) and Eduard Sobol (long-range shot), after which the team did something back thanks to a hit by Ritsu Doan, who tapped in from close range.
The new trainer Ernest Faber gave some talents the chance against the leader of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. Justin de Haas and Noni Madueke were in the starting line-up and Tijn Daverveld, Claudio Gomes and Richard Ledezma came in.
PSV did not have Donyell Malen and Steven Bergwijn. Malen misses the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury and Bergwijn had too many complaints to travel to Qatar for the training camp.
After the winter break the people from Brabant have to chase the leader Ajax and number two AZ. They are no fewer than ten and seven points behind in number three and therefore appear to be only in the race for the TOTO KNVB cup.
Ajax already determines the final score in the first half
Ajax already determined the final score in the first half against Eupen. Siem de Jong opened the score on the instructions of Carel Eiting and Lassina Traoré doubled the margin from a corner by the same Eiting.
Trainer Erik ten Hag prepared a complete B-team against the number thirteen of the Jupiler Pro League. Naci Ünüvar, for example, made his unofficial debut. The first choice comes into action against Club Brugge on Saturday.
Ajax would initially practice against Galatasaray on Thursday, but the Turkish top club canceled the training camp in Qatar for still unclear reasons, after which Eupen was tied up as a training partner.
The North Hollanders have to compete with Bruges without Sergino Dest, which flew back to the Netherlands on Thursday because - probably due to the tensions between the United States and Iran - he did not feel comfortable in Qatar.
Fortuna, ADO and Twente do book a practice win
Fortuna Sittard, ADO The Hague and FC Twente did book a practice win in Spain. Fortuna won no less than 3-0 against Istanbul Basaksehir, ADO was 2-1 too strong for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Twente settled 1-0 with Excelsior Mouscron.
Fortuna was the number three of the Süper Lig halfway ahead with a 1-0 lead through a goal by Branislav Ninaj and after 3 minutes it was 3-0 thanks to hits from Amadou Ciss and Mark Diemers.
ADO faced the number seven of the Bundesliga for a long time behind a goal by Jürgen Locadia, but in the final stage it still pulled the longest thanks to hits from Tomas Necid (penalty) and Crysencio Summerville.
Heracles Almelo had to settle for a 1-1 draw against FC Sion. Heracles still took the lead through a goal by Teun Bijleveld, but saw the number seven of the Super League balance the score thanks to a goal by Yannick Cotter.
