Ingebrigtsen competed extremely much last season, both indoors and outdoors. After the traditional track season with a late World Cup in Doha at the end of September / October, he continued his competition with street and cross-country races.

The 19-year-old became historic when he won the junior class at the Terrain Championships in Lisbon for the fourth time in a month a month ago. Then he also sustained an injury, which causes him to shoot on the trip to a training camp in South Africa until January 19.

- Jacob was hit by an injury in the butt at the Lisbon Terrain Championships. He had to make a directional change at high speed and previously had a feeling of an overload. That incident triggered that injury, says dad Gjert, who is also a trainer and adviser, to NRK.

That injury was not mentioned in connection with the competition but has now emerged.

A timeout was underway

The training has been conducted alternatively after the injury and it feels right to relinquish the indoor season to focus on the big goal: the Tokyo Olympics in July / August. During the World Cup in Doha, Ingebrigtsen doubled at 1500 and 5000 meters.

- Jacob felt very tired after the tough 2019 season and may have taken a "timeout" regardless. He put in a lot of races and felt after the season that he was like a torn dishcloth, Gjert describes the situation.

On Sunday, middle brother Filip traveled to the training camp in South Africa. Jakob will be joined by Elder Brother Henrik, who operated a toe and had two elongated colds, to the camp on his departure on January 19.
