International anti-doping organization Wada shut down Russia's anti-doping organization Rusada and thus Russian athletes from competing in the Olympics and the World Cup for the next four years. The suspension was appealed by Russia to the sports arbitration court, Cas, and there the case is now.

So what about the Tokyo Olympics this summer?

It is still uncertain. The International Olympic Committee, the IOC, will not discuss the details of Russian athletes' participation in the Tokyo Summer Games until after Cas has said his, the IOC announced on Wednesday in connection with a board meeting.

Cas has not yet announced a date for when to make a judgment.

Even if Cas establishes the suspension of Russia, Russian athletes will be able to stand in the Olympics provided they can prove that they were not part of the state-sponsored doping or that their doping test was not manipulated. They are then allowed to compete under the neutral flag and it is these details that the IOC must decide on.

At the same time, the IOC has recently been clear that it wants to get clear with these details in order to avoid a repeat of the 2016 Olympics when several Russian athletes at the last minute tried to appeal their suspensions.
