The former Serbian player of Real Sociedad and Olympiacos, among others, Darko Kovacevic has been the victim of a shooting on Tuesday outside his home, in the Athenian suburb of Glyfada, according to the Athens News Agency. The former international striker, 46, was injured in the knee and was taken to a local hospital, although various media point out that he is out of danger.

Police reported that unidentified assailants shot Kovacevic from a car when the former footballer was leaving his own vehicle. The attack is being investigated by the authorities.

Kovacevic played 59 games with the selection of Serbia and Montenegro between 1994 and 2004 and at club level he finished his career playing at the Olympiacos from 2007 to 2009. He also played in the Royal Society in two stages (1996-1999 and 2001-2007), Lazio (2001), Juventus (1999-2001), Sheffield Wednesday (1996), Red Star of Belgrade (1994-1996) and Proleter Zrenjanin (1992-1994).
