Stina Nilsson was forced to break the Tour de Ski because of a rib injury. Investigations have shown that she suffered a stress fracture in the rib.

- We expect the healing period to be six weeks and it is a period that includes adapted training. Of course, it also affects when she wants to be on the starting line herself. She obviously wants to be able to perform when she starts again, says Magnus Oscarsson, national team doctor, to SVT Sport.

The message means that Stina Nilsson risks missing the rest of the season.

- It will be up to Stina, and she will be symptom free before she thinks about starting again. Then it all depends on the course and what she can do in the meantime. It is difficult for me to say about the season or whether she chooses and try to start. It will be her decision to make then during the season.

A new injury

Stina Nilsson has had problems with a rib injury since she fell during the preseason. But the damage she already began to feel during Planica is another, says Magnus Oscarsson.

- This is not the fracture she suffered during a run in late summer. This is a new damage that it looks like.

Is there any connection with the first injury?

- No such relationship can be seen in the survey. Then one can speculate if it may have affected her training as she had to be careful with the upper body during the period when the fracture healed.

"Feels nice"

Stina Nilsson says in a press release that it is nice to know the reason behind the injury.

- This injury is a consequence of being able to train very hard in the summer and autumn, while not listening to the body's pain signals. It feels great to have known the cause of my problems and thus be able to start to address the problem, by relieving, healing and being pain free.
