Under a beautiful January sky, the TFC players leave the technical center of the Stadium, after the announcement of the dismissal of their coach Antoine Kombouaré, on January 5, 2020. - Nicolas Stival / 20 Minutes

  • The replacement of TFC coach Antoine Kombouaré by Denis Zanko, already present at the club, was announced this Sunday morning at the Toulouse Stadium.
  • President Olivier Sadran had organized a very short meeting to make the announcement to his players, beaten on Saturday in the Coupe de France by Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Hilaire (National 2).
  • Only a handful of supporters witnessed this scene from a distance.

This is called an express meeting. At 10:28 this Sunday, two minutes before the time set by his boss, a last TFC player hurried on to enter the technical center of the Toulouse Stadium. At 10:35 a.m., Olivier Sadran came out of the austere building, exchanged a few words with his second, Jean-François Soucasse, and quickly rushed into his car to leave the place, under a sky as little laughing as the future last in Ligue 1.

In the aftermath of the tenth consecutive defeat for his team, all competitions combined, the president therefore made a point of announcing to his employees the ouster of Antoine Kombouaré and his replacement by Denis Zanko, technical director of the training center.

The news was made official by a concise press release published at 10.40 a.m., where we also learn that Sadran, very rare in the media, will give a press conference on Monday at 6.30 p.m. The humiliating failure a few hours earlier on the bumpy lawn of Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Hilaire, National 2 club (1-0), will therefore have been fatal to the New Caledonian.

Two successes and eleven setbacks for Kombouaré

The 56-year-old technician, arrived in mid-October via a two-season contract in place of Alain Casanova, will therefore leave Toulouse with a nice check but also a cataclysmic record of two successes for eleven losses. The Violets have not won since October 30, in the League Cup in Niort, with a Ligue 2 club (1-2).

Zanko (55), who arrived at the club in the summer of 2017 on the initiative of Pascal Dupraz, will have to launch the very complex maintenance operation with the same staff as Kombouaré.

This Sunday, once Sadran is gone, the 50-year-old, who has already trained in Ligue 2 in Valence, Le Mans and then Laval, spoke at length with Rudy Riou, the goalkeepers' coach. Then he isolated himself on his laptop while the players silently left Ramier Island in small groups (and with a rugby ball under his arm for Baptiste Reynet, porter passionate about the things of ovalism).

Twenty-five of them had to leave a few hours earlier for an internship in Peralada, in Spanish Catalonia, where they will stay until Wednesday afternoon to prepare for the important reception of Brest on Saturday. This studious getaway was scheduled before the ouster of Kombouaré.

"Where are the others yelling?" "

What about the supporters? Saturday, the Tolosa Indians were heard in the Loiret, before being evacuated from the stadium of Grand Clos de Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Mesmin by the police. Sunday morning in Toulouse, everything was much quieter behind the gates of the technical center. We just noticed the presence on the forecourt of the Stadium of a father accompanied by his three very young children who came briefly to brave the cold, and two disenchanted septuagenarians.

"We are disappointed to be only two, where are the others who yell?" Asked Claude, 71, including "59 as a supporter of TFC". "I would have liked to see some supporters to put positive pressure on the team," continued the man who still hopes for a better tomorrow: "The maintenance, I believe in it. By his side, Pierre, 74, was much more cautious. "If we lose to Brest, it's fucked up. If we win, maybe ... "

Whatever happens now, the red lantern, five points from the roadblocker, has already signed a historic season. Since its creation in 1937, the TFC has never used more than two coaches in one exercise. It remains to be seen now if Zanko, who had already provided a very short interim before the arrival of Kombouaré, the time of a friendly match, will continue his new mission until May.
