FIFA announced today, Monday, that it has filed a lawsuit against former FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and former Vice President Michel Platini, in an attempt to recover an amount that was "unjustified" transferred to Platini nearly nine years ago.

Blatter and Platini were punished with suspension by FIFA in 2015 due to the transfer of an amount of two million Swiss francs ($ 2 million) from Blatter to Platini in 2011, and Blatter claimed to be the counterpart of a work that Platini provided to FIFA between 1998 and 2002.

The FIFA Governance Committee made a recommendation to FIFA to file a lawsuit with a Swiss court.

The Swiss authorities have been investigating this money transfer since 2015, as part of the football corruption case, but nothing new has been announced yet.

A FIFA statement said today, Monday, that the Governance Committee concluded that FIFA was supposed to attempt to recover the sums that were transferred from one former official to another.
