Ajax will face Getafe in the first knockout round of the Europa League. AZ is waiting for a dip with the Austrian LASK, as the draw in Nyon, Switzerland, revealed on Monday.

Ajax and Getafe have never played each other. The Spaniards, who currently occupy deserving fourth place in La Liga, finished second in the group stage in a group with FC Basel, Krasnodar and Trabzonspor.

The last few months Ajax came out in the group phase of the Champions League, but the team from Amsterdam did not qualify for the eighth finals. Ajax took ten points in group H, but group winner Valencia and number two Chelsea captured one point more than the team of coach Erik ten Hag.

The last time Ajax played in the Europa League main tournament, the team from Amsterdam reached the final. He was lost 2-0 to Manchester United in 2017. Last season Ajax reached the semi-finals in the Champions League.

AZ was linked to LASK during the draw. The Austrians were still in a group with PSV in the group stage and remained unbeaten in both meetings with the Eindhoven players. LASK won the home game 4-1 and remained 0-0 in the Philips Stadium.

AZ joined the last 32 teams by finishing second in a Europa League group with Manchester United, Partizan FK and FC Astana. The Alkmaarders only lost the final game with United (4-0).

The first matches in the 16th finals of the Europa League will be played on Thursday, February 20. The returns follow a week later.
