In 2017, the relationship between the US ice hockey federation and the country's women's team was at the bottom. The players went out and demanded better conditions - for themselves and future generations of women's hockey.

Two of the most compelling voices belonged to stars Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux, the twin sisters who brought both the World Cup and Olympic titles to their country. They fought the covenant - and won.

When they both became mothers only a month apart, a quick trip back to the elite level was possible thanks to understanding and sanctioned support from the American Hockey Association.

During the year they have followed the women's similar struggle on the other side of the Atlantic.

- If you want a national team that wins medals but treats the players like hockey is a part-time job, then they will perform as a part-time job, Jocelyne told SVT Sport.
