Teun Koopmeiners was not surprised that AZ still managed to win the top match against Ajax on Sunday evening. Myron Boadu headed the winning goal from a corner in Alkmaar in the last minute, where football was played again for the first time after the roof of the AFAS Stadium collapsed last summer.
"It might have been a 0-0 match, but both teams were given a lot of opportunities. I had the feeling that there was a team that would score a goal. It's great that we are," captain Koopmeiners said in conversation with FOX Sports .
Boadu was able to hit Fredrik Midtsjø in a free-standing position and gave AZ the thirteenth victory of the season. The team of coach Arne Slot is now in the same number of points with leader Ajax, which still has a better goal difference.
"We may be able to do something special, but we are only halfway through the season," Koopmeiners remained modest about the title chances of AZ. "In any case, this victory was a perfect way to get home. Everyone was on the edge of their seat and you saw that the discharge was great that the goal was still dropped."
There is only one round left on the program this calendar year. AZ will visit Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday and Ajax will face ADO The Hague on Sunday for their own public. The two leaders have nine points more than number three Willem II.
