UEFA Champions League holders Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has come under fire for talking about the desire of some clubs to increase the number of matches in the group stage of the continental competition.

Klopp and other coaches across the continent complain of the busy schedule, mainly during the season, between local, continental and international competitions.

On Saturday, Liverpool played in the Premier League match, which ended with a 2-0 victory over Watford and strengthened its lead in the standings, before moving in its starting lineup to the Club World Cup.

Liverpool begins its participation in the World Cup clubs from the semi-finals Wednesday against Monterrey, Mexico, in a match preceded by the day of Aston Villa in the League Cup quarter-final, which the Red Club will play in a group of young players.

In statements after the Watford match, Klopp commented on reports of European clubs wanting to increase the number of matches in the first round of the continental competition, by modifying the existing existing formula for the distribution of the 32 participating teams to eight groups, which means each team will play six games in the first round.

"Today (Saturday) I read that the major clubs want to increase the number of matches in the Champions League. I am not involved in these plans, but they are nonsense," he said.

"The scheduled games are what you see (many), but you love seeing us suffer," he criticized the media, which "always shows that they care about the matter, but in reality no one cares. We are talking about it (pressure of matches) but no one talks about it."
