Yakimenko believes that Russia should find and punish those responsible for the situation with WADA sanctions

Alexei Yakimenko, bronze medalist of the 2004 Olympics in saber fencing, expressed the opinion that those responsible for the sanctions of Russia by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) should be punished.

“I think clearly and firmly that the perpetrators should be found and punished. Pure athletes from sports such as fencing, rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming and others where doping is simply inappropriate should not suffer from the mistakes of functionaries or those who used doping. The state must find the guilty and punish so that it is disobedient. I would suggest criminalizing the use and distribution of doping, then this would be less. If you cannot cope with administrative leverage, then you should think about criminal liability, ”Yakimenko said.

Previously, he spoke about the possible transfer of athletes to other countries due to WADA sanctions.
