The Emirati team's exit from the Gulf Football Cup (Khaleeji 24) in Qatar continues to cast a shadow. After the dismissal of coach Bert van Marwijk, the federation’s board of directors resigned and then announced the formation of a transitional committee to run it until the election of a new council.

The Federation announced the holding of a meeting of the Extraordinary General Assembly today, Saturday, to choose the transitional committee to run the union.

And the General Secretariat announced in a statement last Sunday that it had received official resignations from the majority of the Union's members, and accordingly it called for a general assembly.

Al-Ittihad decided at the beginning of this month to dismiss Van Marwijk after the second defeat of the Qatari team in one year, and to leave the Gulf Cup, which crowned Bahrain with its title for the first time in its history.

Van Marwijk took charge last March, succeeding the Italian Alberto Zaccheroni, who was sacked after a heavy defeat by "Al Annabi" also with a clean quad in the Asian Cup held in the UAE and Qatar crowned its title.
