Although German head coach Uwe Rösler has one year left on the contract with Malmö, and despite the successes of the Europa League, the news came today that Malmö FF and Rösler are separated.

- It has leaked to the media that this was happening. So that was expected, says SVT's expert Daniel Nannskog.

Who took the initiative?

- I think this is a very shared decision. Already in March, they started talking about the future with each other. They do not share the view on how to further develop MFF. In the last few months, they probably realized that this was the best solution. They had a shared view that it is best to go different ways, says Nannskog.

Rösler still paid by MFF

Uwe Rösler had a contract that stretched over the next season. On January 1st, the contract officially ends, even though they go separate ways directly. MFF is thus forced to continue to pay Rösler's salary in 2020 as well.

- These are small money in this context, given what they bring into the Europa League.

MFF will play the playoffs in the Europa League, starting in February. Sports manager Daniel Nannskog was clear today that the club is chasing a replacement for Rösler, but that they have not talked to anyone so far. A replacement should be in place when the team goes out in Europe again.

- It becomes important that they get a coach in place immediately. Someone who has the routine of Europe. Someone who knows what it is about performing at two different venues considering Allsvenskan and Europa League, says SVT's expert.

Who do you see fit into that profile?

- I've been thinking a lot about this. It is difficult. There are no alternatives here in Sweden. If I were to put a coin right now, I think they were looking abroad, says Nannskog.

How does this decision affect MFF?

- It can affect both ways. But I think this gives a kick into the team, with new voice and energy, concludes Nannskog.
