Didi Gregorius signs for one season with the Philadelphia Phillies. The international of Orange will earn 14 million dollars (12.6 million euros).
The 29-year-old short stop comes from the New York Yankees, where he has been under contract since 2015. Earlier, the born Amsterdammer played for Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks in the MLB.
Last season, Gregorius didn't get much into action because of an operation on the elbow. In the two seasons before, he achieved a high level at the club from New York.
Gregorius is the second big asset for the Phillies in the mid season. On Monday, pitcher Zack Wheeler took over from the New York Mets. He will earn 106 million euros in five years.
The Philadelphia club was twice the best in the World Series: in 1980 and in 2008. The new season in the MLB begins on March 26.
