Phantom run by Burman on the third stage

2019-12-08T12:22:16.757Z

Sweden finished sixth in the relay over 4x7.5 km in Lillehammer. The big exclamation mark for Sweden stood for Jens Burman who did a phantom race on his third leg where he took almost half a minute on the lead. "I wouldn't let go," says Burman.

Russia 2 won before the first team after Sergej Ustiugov surprisingly finished in the second team. It was very red in the goal trap as the two Norwegian teams were three and four.

Proven Axel Ekström from Mora came in as six 26.9 seconds after the lead after a stable race.

Jens Burman made a big run on the third freestyle section. He went out 29.3 seconds after Finland in the lead but was caught after a couple of kilometers and then did not get the sled but could keep up when the pace was screwed up by Olympic champion Simen Hegstad Krueger in Norway 2 and Sjur Röthe in Norway 1.

Sweden was in the back on the Norwegian law and the gap down to the fourth Russia was ten seconds at the switch to Axel Ekström on route 4.

Rickardsson: "I was just stunned"

- I was a little behind and went out hard and controlled. It didn't go so quickly there. I didn't drive but drove big and calm. I piggybacked and drove what I had at the end when I was tired, I wouldn't let go, Burman tells SVT Sport.

Björn Sandström made an excellent first leg and was third after Norway's Pål Golberg and Russia's Andrej Larkov. They had a small gap back.

On the second stage, it was sealed together and up to eight teams were gathered. At the end, among others, Finland's Iivo Niskanen and Norway's Hans Christer Holund drove hard and Daniel Rickardsson got it tough and lost half a minute to the change where Sweden switched to seven.

"I was just stunned, when I was going to pull on that last one I got tired," said Rickardsson.
