Real Betis striker Joaquín has broken the record for the oldest player with a hat trick in the La Liga. The 38-year-old Spaniard scored three times on Sunday in the league game against Athletic Bilbao.
Joaquín (38 years and 140 days) took over the record from Alfredo Di Stéfano, who was 37 years and 255 days old when he managed to score three times on March 15, 1964 on behalf of Real Madrid.
Joaquín's hat trick also came about super-fast. Real Betis' winger found the match against Bilbao in minutes two, eleven and twenty.
This makes him - after Cristiano Ronaldo in 2015 for Real Madrid - only the second player this century to score three goals in La Liga in the first twenty minutes of the match.
