Newcastle were two points above relegation place for today's match, but took three important points away from newcomer Sheffield.

Extra nice was the victory for 22-year-old striker Allan Saint-Maximin. The promising Frenchman was acquired from Nice for almost SEK 200 million for the season, but has had difficulty paying back on the pitch.

After missing 16 finishes in the Premier League for Newcastle, and his 30 last for Nice in Ligue 1, Saint-Maximin finally broke the goal drought as he nodded 1-0 after a quarter.

Before that, it was Sheffield who had dominated the game and goalkeeper Martin Dubravaka who saved the "Magpies".

In the second half, Jonjo Shelvey increased to 2-0 with a remarkable goal. All Sheffield players stopped playing when the offside flag came up, but the profile ran on, came completely alone with the goalkeeper and rolled the ball in. The VAR review showed that the target was correct after all.

The Swedish teammate Emil Krafth was replaced for Newcastle in the final minutes.
