Tokyo Olympics and Para-related countries spending over 1 trillion yen December 5, 6:41, separate from direct tournament expenses

The Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics showed that a total of 1.6 trillion yen was spent as a related national measure apart from direct tournament expenses. The Audit Office asked the country to capture and publicize the full picture of the costs.

Regarding the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, the Organizing Committee has announced that it will cost 1.3 trillion yen directly related to the Games.

A survey of other related government expenditures conducted by the Auditing Institute revealed that in 340 projects, including the development of a new national stadium, measures against heat, and the enhancement of competitiveness to win medals during the last six years. A total of 1.6 trillion yen was spent.

That's about 250 billion yen more than last year's survey.

We also found that the expenses for the waiting facility for police officers who came to support the country and were to be guarded for the next fiscal year, such as 13.2 billion yen, were not announced.

In order to gain the public's understanding, the Auditing Office asked the country to release the report after understanding the overall cost of the tournament.

The secretariat of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Promotion Office of the Cabinet Secretariat commented, “The government wants to scrutinize the contents and announce the expenditure for measures particularly relevant to the Games.”
