  • Football Leaks. 70% of what the Messi Foundation entered between 2013 and 2016 was money from Barcelona
  • Courts.Leo Messi, denounced in the National Court for fraud and money laundering in his Foundation

The judge of the National Court María Tardón has reopened the case against the Leo Messi Foundation , which will be investigated for charges of money laundering and fraud. The case, which was filed at the end of September, is open again after the judge has accepted the petitioner's appeal, the Argentine Federico Rettori.

The footballer's association was already under the focus of the Treasury for the payments of Barcelona, as this newspaper has already published. The EL MUNDO investigation revealed that 70% of the money that the Leo Messi Foundation entered was money from the club itself and that it also used a legal vacuum to work six years without registering.

Rettori, a former collaborator of the Argentine player association, started the process this summer with a complaint stating that the foundation had been used as a "screen" and that he had never had "the slightest intention of allocating funds to shares and social projects such as those they are required to do according to their functional mandate. " Rettorri himself is also a complainant of the 'subsidiary' of the foundation in Argentina .

There, the cause has advanced in recent months to the point that the lifting of bank secrecy has been decreed to the Foundation to investigate a possible money laundering.

At the end of September, the judge filed the case because she considered that the facts reported did not have the necessary credibility. A few days later, the Prosecutor's Office expressed its disagreement with the judge's decision by means of a reform appeal in which he indicated that the resolution "could be premature" and requested the opening of instructional proceedings.

The appeal of the Prosecutor's Office was not admitted, but the judge changed the previous definitive dismissal to a provisional one , so that "if a possible reopening of the proceedings could take place, if justified the existence of new rational indications".

As the order of the National Court reports, the coincidence of the Prosecutor's appeal with that of Rettori has been sufficient to revoke the provisional dismissal and decree the opening of the case . The next step, therefore, will be to take a statement from the complainant.
