José Mourinho expects a warm welcome when he returns to Old Trafford for the first time since his resignation from Manchester United. 'The Red Devils' will receive Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, which has recently been led by the Portuguese.
Mourinho was fired at Manchester United in December last year after a series of disappointing results. 'The Special One', which signed a contract with Tottenham Hotspur until mid-2023 last month, nevertheless does not think it will be spitefully received by the supporters.
"I am not a villain or an enemy, but a coach who wants to win a game against Manchester United. That's how I expect the fans to look at me," Mourinho told Sky Sports Tuesday at his press conference.
"I expect a nice welcome, but during the game the supporters will of course support their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They love their club and therefore also Solskjaer. During the game the fans will forget me and focus on supporting the players "
56-year-old Mourinho had to leave United a year ago because of the disappointing results, but his successor Solskjaer is no better now. United occupies the disappointing ninth place in the Premier League with eighteen points from fourteen league games.

'At Manchester United I both got and learned'
Mourinho, who had to leave United when the club was on 26 points after 17 matches, refused to say anything about Solskjaer and United at his press conference. "This is a closed chapter for me. When I left the club, I took the time to process everything and focus on the next challenge."
"Manchester United is a book full of experiences for me," he continued. "It's kind of like Nelson Mandela once said," You never lose: you win or you learn. " At United I won and learned. The period after my resignation was a good time for me and it is now not up to me to analyze the situation of the club. "
Although Mourinho said goodbye to United in a nasty and forced way, his love for the club has not cooled. "For me, my return to Old Trafford means a reunion with a place where I was happy. You can go to my office, then you will see that I still have some pictures of my time at United."
For Solskjaer, a crucial week has arrived, as United plays the derby against fellow Manchester City three days after the squatter against Tottenham (kick-off at 8.30 pm). On Thursday, December 12, there will be a home game with AZ in the Europa League.
