In 1990, Liverpool led by Kenny Dalglish - who served as player-coach - and striker Ian Rush celebrated his 18th league title, thus closing a glorious decade in which the Reds lifted England's main trophy six times. At that time, Liverpool was the clear historical dominator of English football, with much distance over Everton and Arsenal, second in the standings with nine titles each, exactly half.

Since then, however, Liverpool settled the drought and Manchester United now leads the historic record with 20 titles, 13 of them at this time. Two European Cups and one UEFA Cup arrived in Anfield, also three FA Cups and some other minor trophy, but the league became a curse that has lasted for 30 years. In their windows there is not a Premier League, competition founded in 1992, which torments the fans of Anfield.

But that is going to end. At least, that's how the logic dictates. After 14 days, Liverpool de Jürgen Klopp acts as a tyrannical leader of the competition, with 13 wins and a single draw, on loan at Old Trafford against Manchester United. Therefore, he has 40 points, eight more than the Leicester, his amazing pursuer. Behind appears 29 with the City, more off the fight after his draw against Newcastle on Saturday, and Chelsea, who lost to West Ham and is already 14 points from the intractable leader.

Concessions of opponents

Liverpool, needless to say, goes first for its excellent performance - it has been 31 games without losing in Premier, its best historical streak for 31 years - but also aided by the crisis that the main opponents should be. The Guardiola project in the City emits symptoms of clear exhaustion. In fact, the Spanish coach had never been so far from being a leader in his entire career, an obvious symptom that something does not work in the Etihad.

Arsenal and Tottenham have already changed coaches after a season start well below expectations. In a similar situation, although with Solskjaer holding the downpour, Manchester United is found. Among the greats, only Chelsea is saved, who after losing Hazard and not being able to sign in summer stays fourth, grabbed Lampard and his quarry.

In Liverpool, however, everything runs smoothly. Despite not making weight additions in summer -the goalkeeper Adrián was the most prominent-, the block that won the last Champions continues to rise and greased, practicing what is perhaps the best football on the continent, electric and dizzying.

The only price to pay for this brilliant first third league has been to partially sacrifice their performance in the Champions League. Although he leads his group, he is still not mathematically classified in the absence of a day, after drawing and losing his two games against Naples, his fiercest European rival.

Klopp has made rotations in the Champions League, although beyond the names Liverpool does not display in Europe the intensity it practices in England. The explanation is quite simple: the Premier League is an absolute priority at Anfield this season after staying just one point behind it last year. Three decades of drought deserve that Liverpool seems closer than ever to settle.
