Thus, the fame and veneration of Roger Federer in his country, Switzerland, has reached such a level that the Basel tennis player has become the first living person whose effigy will be used in gold and silver coins of his country, minted by the national coin factory (Swissmint), as reported by that institution.
A first 20 franc commemorative coin with the player's face will be issued on January 23 with an expected mintage of 55,000 pieces , although the presale of these pieces has already begun.
The second currency, this one of gold and worth 50 francs , will arrive on a date not yet specified next May. The mint stressed that the reason to immortalize Federer in the Swiss francs has not been just his sporting successes. but also his social commitment , "especially through his foundation to help children as ambassador of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)".
