The Canadian Nicholas Latifi will occupy the seat in the car of the Williams team that will leave vacant next year in the Formula One World Championship the Polish Robert Kubica, as announced on Thursday at the circuit of Yas Marina, home of the last Grand Prix of the year , that of Abu Dhabi.

Latifi, born 24 years ago in Montreal, who also did it in a couple of races in 2015 and 2016 , regularly competed for the last four seasons in the F2 -previous GP2-, in which this season, in the absence of the two Last races, which will be played at Yas Marina this weekend, occupies the second position in the championship, with the DAMS team.

The Canadian will be a companion, in the team founded by Sir Frank Williams, of the Englishman George Russell , debuting this year in the queen category and, for the moment, the only one who has not yet been able to score. The only point achieved this year by the Grove team was Kubica after finishing tenth at Hockenheim during the German Grand Prix.

Kubica, born in Krakow 34 years ago and who had returned this season as an official F1 driver - after slowly recovering after the very serious rally accident he suffered in 2011 - is the only Polish man in history to have led the World Cup. Formula One and that has won a Grand Prix of this contest: the one of Canada of 2008.
