Kuwait congratulated Qatar on the opening of the Arabian Gulf Cup, considering this sporting gathering as one of the steps to restore the Gulf cohesion.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have all retreated from withdrawing from the "Gulf 24" championship, which kicked off on Tuesday, and will continue until the eighth of next month.

The emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, sent a congratulatory message to the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

In his message, the Emir expressed his "great pride and happiness at the brotherly sports gathering that brought together the brothers and participants in the 24th Gulf Cup of Football hosted by Qatar."

"This fraternal gathering represents one of the desired steps towards the right way to restore the Gulf meat of the past."

He stressed that this gathering "strengthens the bonds of brotherhood and the restoration of interdependence and rapprochement between the peoples of the GCC countries ... ... to preserve the gains and unity of the Gulf Cooperation Council."

Sheikh Tamim welcomed all the participants yesterday, saying during the opening speech of the tournament "on behalf of every Qatari welcome everyone in Doha everyone."

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have previously refrained from participating in Gulf 23 between the end of 2017 and early 2018, as Qatar was the host.

But the tournament was transferred to Kuwait at the time as a gesture of the Gulf Union, after the International Federation (FIFA) lifted the suspension imposed on Kuwait, which prompted the three teams to participate.
