The participation of the Gulf trio was part of a surprise development, despite an earlier decision to boycott the tournament.

Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khalid Al-Jarallah said on Monday that the participation of the three teams in the Gulf 24 "is an indication of progress towards resolving the crisis between the brothers."
