It was a matinee performance in Washington when the NHL's currently strongest team received Vancouver with a redhead Elias Pettersson in the lead. Jakub Vrana with a past in SHL gave the home team the lead early in the first period with a shot put in goal behind a scoreless Jakob Markström.

But Elias Pettersson was supposed to answer numbers. With six minutes left of the first period, Vancouver got the powerplay mode. Elias Pettersson loaded for shots and also got the pass from JT Miller. Pettersson pushed from a glowing direct shot straight up the nearest intersection. His 29th point for the season, 6 more than the second in the Swedish league, Wiilliam Karlsson.

There were no more goals during regular time and after a speechless extension and the match to penalties. The Danish Lars Eller and the home fan thought that Eller had decided but after the video review the goal was doomed. Instead, Bo Horvat stepped forward and resolved the decision for the Canadians.
