LIVERPOOL, England (Reuters) - Liverpool strengthened their lead at the top of the English Premier League after a tough 2-1 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday in the 13th round of the competition.

Tottenham made a good start under new coach Jose Mourinho and beat West Ham 3-2 at the opening stage.

Arsenal escaped defeat at home to a 2-2 draw at home to Southampton, while the hosts struggled hard in other games, with Norwich City beating Everton 2-0, Burnley 3-0 at Watford and Wolverhampton 2 at Bournemouth 2 -1, Leicester City at Brighton 2-0.

Back in the Reds match, Senegalese star Sadio Mane led the guests (49), and Wilfried Zaha equalized for Crystal Palace (82), before Firmino snatched the winning goal for Liverpool (85).

Liverpool have missed the Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, who remained on the bench until the end, after returning recently from injury.

Liverpool have 37 points, eight ahead of closest rivals Leicester City, while Crystal Palace are 15 points behind in 14th place.
