Victory against South Korea in the quarter and Japan in the final. The surprising title of the Asian Championships in the United Arab Emirates in January showed that Qatar's long-term commitment to the 2022 World Cup is going in the right direction.

"For us, it was a great historical event," says midfielder Abdulhaziz Hatem. And we have a long-term goal, to win the World Cup.

Federal Captain Spanish

Federation Captain Felix Sanchez is a Spaniard and took over the job two years ago. But has worked in the country ever since 2006, at the country's largest sports school Aspire Academy and then with several youth national teams.

- The main goal is to have a good team for the 2022 World Cup, we work hard for it, says Sanchez.

Sensitive topic

For the 2015 Handball World Cup, the country paid players from Spain and the Balkan Peninsula to play for Qatar. Basically everyone in the football squad plays in Qatari clubs but SVT's question about their origin did not become popular at a press conference in the capital Doha - it is obviously still a sensitive topic.
