Achim Beierlorzer has nine days after his departure at 1 FC Cologne again a job in the Bundesliga. The 51-year-old will be the new coach for the relegation candidate FSV Mainz 05. The Rheinhessen had separated after the 0: 8 at RB Leipzig and the 2: 3 against Union Berlin by Sandro Schwarz. Beierlorzer gets according to the club a contract until the summer of 2022 and sitting in the game on Sunday at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim first time on the bench of the table-16.
"In factual and content-wise Achim Beierlorzer is a typical coach for Mainz 05," said FSV Sport Board Rouven Schröder in a press release. Beierlorzer said: "Surely this is a curious situation in football: a week ago I was still a coach in Cologne, now I will be presented in Mainz as a head coach."
Beierlorzer had collected with Cologne in eleven games only seven points, the Mainz have two more counters. He is now to protect the FSV Mainz 05 from descending at the end of the season after eleven years in the second Bundesliga. Cologne had on 15 November, just a week after the breakup, the 2021 ongoing contract with the coach dissolved. About the height of the compensation made the club no information.
Mainz had shown a desolate performance in the recent games in Leipzig and also against Berlin. The club withdrew therefore the native Black Mainz after two and a half years of confidence. After eleven match days, the team is on the relegation place with nine points and a goal difference of 12:30.
