• The players: Another 'collateral damage' of the war between Rubiales and Roures

The Spanish First Division footballers began their indefinite unemployment on Saturday, following their fight for the first collective agreement to regulate their employment status. The game that this Saturday was to open the ninth day of the championship, between Espanyol and UD Granadilla Tenerife in the Dani Jarque Sports City of Barcelona, will not be played.

Later, by 18:30, the Levante-Sporting meeting in Huelva was scheduled in the sports city of Buñol, which has not been played either. The local club even warned their fans hours before the meeting and through social networks not to go to the Levantine facilities.

The staff of the Tenerife entity, in fact, did not even fly from the island to the city. His flight was scheduled for this Friday afternoon, but he suffered "technical problems." Having regard to the "untimely hour at which they would arrive at the concentration hotel," around 5:00 p.m. Peninsular time, and bearing in mind that the indefinite strike began at 00:01 this Saturday, the UD Granadilla Tenerife board took the decision that their players return to their homes. The entity respected, in this way, "the position of the players to support the strike."

The First Iberdrola footballers called an indefinite strike before the state of paralysis of the negotiations between the clubs and the unions for the first collective agreement of Spanish women's football. After 13 months of negotiation, and despite the mediation in the last weeks of the General Directorate of Labor and the Higher Sports Council, the positions remain far apart, especially in terms of minimum wage and partiality.

The requests of the players

The players lowered their salary claims up to 16,000 euros per year, but require a minimum of 6 hours a day . They set at 75 percent the minimum of bias, a key aspect in the contribution for future pensions. The Association of Women's Soccer Clubs, meanwhile, increased its offer from 13,000 to 16,000 euros per year, but asked to limit part-time contracts so that they did not have an occupancy of less than 50 percent of the normal working day . That is, four hours a day -20 per week-, which would leave the salary at 8,000 euros gross per year for such contracts.

The difference between union claims and the employer's offer, as explained by the Club Association, is 1,500,000 euros . Under the current financing situation, the employer assured that it cannot afford it. Before this blockade, the players decided to call the first strike in their history. "Strike for equality" or "female agreement now" are messages that have been repeated in recent days on social networks.

Spanish international Alexia Putellas explained this Saturday on her Twitter profile that with unemployment they intend to achieve "decent labor rights." The Spanish First Division footballers want a collective agreement to regulate matters such as the minimum wage, the duration of the day or the holidays; and, beyond that, be protected in case of injury or pregnancy, among others.
