Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi said on Friday that captain Riad Mehrez will miss Botswana's 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier for personal reasons.
Manchester City striker Mehrez contributed to a 5-0 win over Zambia at the start of the Nations Cup qualifier on Thursday.
"Mehrez will miss the trip to Botswana for personal reasons," Belmadi told local media, without giving further details.
Algerian reports said Mehrez's absence was due to Belmadi's desire to remain at the disposal of his English club and to give him another chance to regain his place at Manchester City.
Algeria visit Botswana on Monday in their second Group 9 round.
