Egypt lost two valuable points at the start of their qualifying campaign for the African Nations Cup in Cameroon in 2021, after they fell in a 1-1 draw with their team Kenya on Thursday in the first round of Group G, which saw the Comoros team 1-0 Hosts Togo.

Comoros led the group with three points, two points ahead of Egypt and Kenya, who shared second place, while the Togolese team bottomed the rankings without points.

Egypt's record-breaking seven-time African Cup of Nations trophy appeared to have been hampered by the absence of Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah, who has struggled with an ankle injury, to lose two points that could pay dearly in the qualifying campaign.

The Egyptian team scored through Mahmoud Abdel Moneim (Electra), before Kenya equalized in the 67th minute through Michel Olonga, taking advantage of a gag from the defense of the Egyptian team.

Egypt will visit Comoros in the second round next week, while Kenya will host the Togolese side in the same round.
