Tokyo Olympics and Para: To be given a bouquet using flowers in the disaster-stricken area, November 12, 19:35

At the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, a bouquet of flowers was given along with medals at the awards ceremony for athletes, and a design using flowers raised in the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake was announced.

At the Olympic and Paralympic awards, it was customary to give a medalist a bouquet as a supplementary prize, but at the Rio de Janeiro tournament three years ago and the Pyongchang tournament last winter, the tournament emblem Only figurines of the shape and stuffed mascots were presented.

In response to requests from the flower industry, the Tokyo Organizing Committee decided to give a bouquet of domestic flowers and announced the design of the bouquet on the 12th.

The bouquet is approximately 30 centimeters high, and the design is based on bright colors, mainly using flowers grown in the three prefectures of Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate to support recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake.

In the Olympics, sunflowers from Miyagi Prefecture and roses from Miyagi Prefecture are used mainly for roses from Miyagi Prefecture, and Eustoma from Fukushima Prefecture and gentian from Iwate Prefecture. The mascots are also stuffed toys.

The tournament organizing committee, with the cooperation of the Japan Flower Promotion Council, will make approximately 5,000 items throughout the Tokyo Games.

“Nobuo Tsujimura, Chairman of the Japan Flower Promotion Council, said,“ I would like to express my gratitude for the warmth of the world in the Great East Japan Earthquake and encourage the affected areas. ”
