Bayern Munich has averted a crisis on Saturday by winning a big win in the top match against Borussia Dortmund. The reigning national champion was too strong for the rival in the Allianz Arena with 4-0.

Robert Lewandowski opened the score after more than fifteen minutes with a good header from a cross by Benjamin Pavard and with that goal set a record in the Bundesliga. The Polish striker may call himself the first player to find the goal in eleven consecutive league matches.

Shortly after the break, Serge Gnabry doubled the margin by simply pushing the ball in from a cross from Thomas Müller. Lewandowski again scored in the final quarter after a nice combination with Müller and Mats Hummels determined the final score with an own goal.

With the win, Bayern recovered from last week's painful defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt (5-1). A day later trainer Niko Kovac was fired, whereby assistant coach Hans-Dieter Flick honored Dortmund. During the week, Flick was already on the bench with the 2-0 win against Olympiacos in the Champions League and Bayern will continue with him for the time being.

Due to the victory over Dortmund, Bayern climbs to third place in the Bundesliga. 'Der Rekordmeister' is one point behind Borussia Mönchengladbach, who still receives Werder Bremen on Sunday. Dortmund drops to fifth place and again has two points less than Bayern.

Leipzig remains at the forefront of Gladbach

Earlier in the day, RB Leipzig managed to maintain its connection with Gladbach. The team of coach Julian Nagelsmann won in Berlin with 2-4 against Hertha BSC.

Maximilian Mittelstadt gave Hertha the lead, but at halftime the visitors led 1-2 with hits from Timo Werner (penalty) and Marcel Sabitzer. Kevin Kampl and Werner secured the win in the final phase, after which Davie Selke determined the final score in injury time on behalf of the home team.

With the win, Leipzig climbs to second place. 'Die Roten Bullen' are one point behind Gladbach. At Hertha, which is in the middle bracket, Javairô Dilrosun and Karim Rekik played the entire game.

Schalke spills points in spectacle piece

In Gelsenkirchen, Schalke 04 played a 3-3 draw against Fortuna Düsseldorf. 'Die Königsblauen' took the lead three times, but could not prevent a loss of points.

Daniel Caligiuri, Ozan Kabak and Suat Serdar were accurate on behalf of Schalke, but Rouwen Hennings re-established the balance for Düsseldorf and made a hat trick. Due to the draw, Schalke is now three points behind Gladbach.

Jean-Paul Boëtius and Jeremiah St. Juste went down with their own audience against FSV Mainz 05 against FC Union Berlin: 2-3. Boëtius was replaced after an hour and St. Juste filled the ninety minutes. Sheraldo Becker stayed on the bench at Union Berlin. Mainz drops to sixteenth place due to the defeat.

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw came with FC Augsburg to win at last-closing player SC Paderborn: 0-1. Philipp Max crowned the matchwinner with the visitors, where Gouweleeuw fell in injury time. Klaus Gjasula missed a penalty for Paderborn in the opening phase.
