Most drastic is three-step jumper Will Claye, who jumped 18.14 this summer and is third through all time - just 15 inches from Jonathan Edward's world record of 18.29 from the Gothenburg World Cup in 1995.

- I heard that step three is not considered entertaining enough for the Diamond League. It may well be that I aim to become a full-time artist and invest in music, says Clay in a video he posted on Twitter.

Noah Lyles, who ran 200 meters at 19.50 last summer and won the Doha World Cup, has shared Clay's video on his social media. And added "Hoppsan, nothing 200 meters".

Discus and three stages almost completely disappear and get only one competition each for ladies and gentlemen next season. After all, 200 meters and 3000 meters of obstacles will get five competitions on both the women's and men's side. With 14 competitions on the program next year, full coverage of the Diamond League will mean seven competitions per branch and gender. In addition, 5000 meters have been cut down to 3000 meters, which will be the longest running distance.

Discus, three stages, 200 meters and 3000 meters of obstacles will not be included in the final.

200 meters are affected even though the branch is popular

The International Athletic Association IAAF has conducted various surveys, including on social media, to find out which branches are the most popular. 100 meters, long jump and high jump were most popular branches.

Although 200 meters was the fifth most popular branch, stake jump was four, the branch is affected and must not be in the final. The IAAF justifies it being too “stressful” to have it alongside 100 meters in an Olympic year.

“It feels confusing because 200 meters is one of the most popular branches. Seriously; how did they think? ”writes Dafne Schippers, double world champion at the distance, on Twitter.

"I'm disappointed. Reducing the length of the gala is not a solution for making exciting television. IAAF, you have to market it better, ”writes Emma Coburn, world champion at the 3000 meters obstacle 2017.

- I think it's super boring. Athletics become poorer when you remove branches from the program, says SVT expert Kajsa Bergqvist.

To compensate for the loss of the Diamond League, the IAAF will launch a second-round, Continental Tour, for the disadvantaged branches.
