• Iberdrola League. The strike remains, but loses strength

In Spain, football is a sport in which eleven play against eleven and always ends up becoming a Rubiales war against Roures (or against Thebes) . Although in the last episode of this endless series, what is dealt with rather is a pulse between the RFEF and Mediapro to see who gives the arm to twist. It is a battle of pride . Whoever gives up loses . And in the middle, more than 300 players waiting impatiently so that, in some way, they can more common sense that vanity and its demands are reflected in the first collective agreement in the history of Spanish women's football.

Tap recap to understand how one thing has ended up drifting into the other. On October 22 , almost 200 players voted to call a strike that was ratified on the 28th , after the relevant mediation failed. After 13 months of negotiation , the First Division players understood as insufficient the offer of clubs, which broadly collected a minimum monthly salary of 666 euros . They were planted in 1,000 and, failing to do so, decided to call a strike on November 16 and 17 .

The Association of Women's Soccer Clubs (ACFF) , to which 13 clubs of the category belong, all except Athletic, Barcelona and Tacón (the future Real Madrid) argued that it was economically unfeasible to reach the figures requested by the players, than to do so it would cause some clubs to have to withdraw from the competition by not having money to pay that minimum of 1,000 euros a month to their players.

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION

In that scenario, the ACFF proposed a possible solution by Mediapro . And here it is necessary to explain that the company of Roures owns the television rights of 11 clubs of the category and maintains a litigation for them with the Madrid CFF . Athletic, Barça, Sevilla and Tacón, meanwhile, go hand in hand in this area with the RFEF , which offered 500,000 euros to clubs that will align with it. Mediapro's average payment to the other 11 teams does not reach half that amount.

This conflict has caused a television war at the beginning of the First Iberdrola . Historically, the principle that the operator who owns the rights of the home team can play the game has been respected, even if he does not have the rights of the visitor. But this time it has not been so, so Mediapro is only broadcasting clashes between its 11 clubs (in addition to the Madrid CFF as a visitor) and the rest are being broadcast, at best, only through digital platforms and official media of the clubs. Of course, with complaints in between, such as the one maintained by the Catalan operator (which is the one that establishes the veto) with Barça for the issuance of his duel with Atlético through his website.

With this scenario, Mediapro announced that it freed those 11 clubs from its commitment to adhere to the offer of 500,000 euros from the RFEF, thus obtaining income that allowed clubs to access the salary demands of the footballers. It did, of course, only one condition: to be able to issue two weekly games in Gol in exchange for 1.5 million euros.

HEALTH CORD

And here comes the problem. Because since Rubiales acceded to his presidency, the RFEF has established a sanitary cordon with Mediapro , which has taken away the management of the VAR and has excluded this year's Cup competitions , the end of last year and the Supercup to be played in January. With this movement, Roures proposed a solution, but passed the hot potato to RFEF, which he intended to force an agreement for the issuance of these two parties.

Rubiales, needless to say, was not going to happen, but he could not be like the bad guy in the movie, like the man who refused to prevent the strike of women's football because of his war with Roures. So this Wednesday has counterattacked with an offer that returns to Mediapro the responsibility of ending this matter.

The RFEF, at the outset, emphasizes that the offer of 500,000 euros per club is not in force because of an overwhelming logic argument : a quarter of the competition has already been consumed without the RFEF being able to market those rights . In other words, they are now worth less. It offers, however, the 1.2 million euros that it estimates clubs need to be able to meet the minimum wage demanded by the players, respecting the current television agreements with Mediapro , without the need for all clubs to market their rights with the RFEF.

Now, it sets three conditions : that Mediapro go through the hoop to allow Athletic, Barcelona, Tacón and Sevilla to freely market their home games against clubs whose rights Roures owns; that all clubs accept that it is the RFEF that manages the commercial rights of the competition and advertising media; and that there is a kind of commitment to joint marketing within three seasons, when the Mediapro agreement with its clubs expires.

If Mediapro gives its arm to twist, the problem will be solved , there will be no strike and the players will charge a minimum of one thousand euros per month. The question is whether the producer will swallow and give its approval or surprise with a proposal that returns the ball to the roof of the RFEF. And, meanwhile, the players continue to strike for their rights.
